If you hold an EU or EEA passport you almost certainly do not need an immigration lawyer in Cyprus: you register your residence rather than apply for permission, and most people do that themselves. If you do not, the category you apply under decides the income you must show, how long you can stay, and whether your family can join you, and choosing the wrong category is the expensive mistake. Our directory lists 52 Cyprus law firms whose service areas include residency and immigration, shown with their Google rating where we have one.

Firms in this area

We list 52 firms whose service areas include this work. The 24 shown below are ordered by Google rating. We do not hold review counts, so a high rating here may rest on very few reviews, and a Google rating measures what past clients chose to post rather than the quality of the legal work. Treat the order as a starting point, not a ranking.

How this list is built

We classify each firm's service areas ourselves, from its public website and listing information. Those tags are our classification, not a Bar Association specialisation certificate, and a firm may well take work outside them. Where we show a rating it is the firm's Google rating at our last data refresh, a few listings have none, we do not hold review counts, and no firm pays for placement. Before you instruct anyone, you can check them independently: a Cyprus law firm can only be incorporated with the approval of the Legal Council, and every practising advocate is entered on the Cyprus Bar Association Register of Practising Advocates and holds an annual licence. Ask for the registration details and verify them.

Pick the category before you pick the lawyer

Cyprus residence routes are category driven, and the wrong category is the most common expensive mistake. Employment, company director, self sufficiency, study, permanent residency and the Digital Nomad Visa each carry different evidence, income thresholds and family rights. A good immigration lawyer starts by mapping your situation to a category and tells you where you do not qualify, rather than starting the application you asked for.

The Digital Nomad Visa in practice

Cyprus introduced its Digital Nomad Visa by Council of Ministers decision in late 2021, for non-EU and non-EEA nationals working remotely for foreign employers or clients, and the annual permit quota was raised to 1,000 in October 2025, so availability depends on the quota not being full. It requires a minimum net monthly income of around 3,500 euro and grants residence for up to three years. EU and EEA citizens do not need it, since they can live and work in Cyprus freely. It is a residence route, not a tax route, and it does not by itself make you tax resident.

Residence and tax residency are different questions

Holding a residence permit does not make you Cyprus tax resident, and being tax resident does not require a permit if you are an EU citizen. Tax residency runs on the 183 day rule, or on the 60 day rule. The 60 day rule needs four things together: at least 60 days in Cyprus in the tax year, no more than 183 days in any other single country, a permanent home in Cyprus that you own or rent, and business, employment or a directorship in a Cyprus tax resident company that does not end during the year. The old condition that you be tax resident nowhere else was dropped from 1 January 2026. Miss one of the remaining four and you are not resident under it. Have your lawyer and your tax advisor answer the residence question and the tax-residence question separately, because conflating them is where plans go wrong.

5 questions to ask before you instruct

  1. Which category do I actually qualify for, and which ones am I not eligible for?
  2. What is the realistic timeline for this category right now, not the statutory one?
  3. What happens to my family members, and do they need separate applications?
  4. What are the renewal conditions, and what would put my permit at risk?
  5. Is the fee per application or per stage, and what happens if the application is refused?

How the fees usually work

How Cyprus immigration lawyers usually bill. Indicative market structure, not quotes from the firms listed. Government application fees are set by the authorities and are separate from professional fees.
MatterHow it is usually billedWhat drives the cost
Residence permit applicationFixed fee per applicantCategory, number of family members, document translation and apostille
Digital Nomad VisaFixed feeWhether dependants are included, evidence gathering for the income test
Permanent residencyFixed fee, sometimes stagedWhich route you qualify under, the supporting evidence it demands, and how long you have already been resident
Renewals and appealsFixed fee or hourlyWhether the original file was clean, and whether a refusal must be challenged

Red flags to avoid

  • A guaranteed approval. No lawyer controls the decision of an immigration authority.
  • Being pushed toward an investment route when a cheaper employment or self sufficiency category would fit.
  • Residence and tax residency described as the same thing.
  • No written list of the documents you must produce before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a lawyer for a Digital Nomad Visa application, or can I apply myself?
Plenty of people apply themselves. A lawyer earns the fee where the evidence is the hard part: proving the 3,500 euro net monthly income from a foreign employer or foreign clients, documenting a genuinely remote working arrangement, or adding dependants. Permits run against an annual quota, raised to 1,000 in October 2025, so timing matters and a refusal costs more than the fee. EU and EEA citizens do not use this route at all.
Do EU citizens need a lawyer to move to Cyprus?
Usually not. EU and EEA citizens register their residence rather than apply for permission, and most handle it themselves. A lawyer is worth it if your case is unusual, if third-country family members are joining you, or if a previous application was refused.
Does a Cyprus residence permit make me tax resident?
No. Residence and tax residency are separate. Tax residency depends on the 183 day rule, or on the 60 day rule, which requires at least 60 days in Cyprus, no more than 183 days in any other single country, a permanent home here that you own or rent, and business, employment or a directorship in a Cyprus tax resident company that does not end during the year. The requirement to be tax resident nowhere else was dropped from 1 January 2026. Get both questions answered before you plan around either.
