What to get right if you are a crypto trader in Cyprus

Get your 2026 position confirmed early.
The 8 percent Article 20E regime is new and still being interpreted by firms. Engage a tax advisor who has actually read the enacted law, not one still repeating the old Cyprus is zero-tax on crypto line.
Records first, advice second.
The hardest part of crypto tax is reconstructing the transaction history across wallets and exchanges. An accountant who works with crypto tooling saves far more than the fee at filing time.
Personal trading or a company?
High-volume or business-like activity may sit better in a company; occasional investing usually stays personal. The wrapper changes both the tax and the licensing picture, so decide it with an advisor.

Frequently asked questions

Is crypto taxed in Cyprus in 2026?
Yes. From 1 January 2026, Article 20E of the Income Tax Law taxes profits on the disposal of crypto assets at a flat 8 percent, for every Cyprus tax resident including non-doms. Mining is carved out and losses are same-year only. See our crypto tax guide.
What professionals does a crypto trader in Cyprus need?
A tax advisor who understands the Article 20E 8 percent regime and an accountant to reconcile transactions and file the return. A corporate lawyer is needed if you run a crypto business or need a CASP licence.
Do non-doms pay crypto tax in Cyprus?
Yes. The 8 percent Article 20E disposal tax is an income tax and applies to non-doms too. Non-dom status exempts the Special Defence Contribution, not this crypto income tax. Confirm your position with an advisor.
